Chemistry Professors Part of New Five Year NIH Study on Mechanisms of Diabetes

USCGA Science Department Professors Joshua Gray and Glenn Frysinger were co-awardees of a $1.7 million, five-year National Institutes of Health R01 grant investigating the role of cellular metabolism in insulin secretion that begins September 15, 2013. PROF Gray will study the role of xenobiotics in cell health, focusing on reactive oxygen species and their positive and negative roles in the modulation of insulin secretion. PROF Frysinger will perform bioanalytical studies to explore how intracellular metabolites are affected by normal and diabetic conditions. These studies will be performed with the principal awardee, Dr. Emma Heart of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
