Hey everybody, my name is Ardy Effendi. I was born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, right near the border to New York and Vermont, and only a two-hour drive to or from the Academy. I played football and track and field in high school. I love to hike, ski, and just do anything outdoors. I gained interest in the Coast Guard through meeting both officers and enlisted members, speaking with them about the great things the Coast Guard does around the world. Specifically, I had a great interest in the law enforcement detachments of the Coast Guard.
To my initial discontent, I did not receive an immediate appointment to the Academy, but was selected to be a Coast Guard Academy Scholar. I went to Marion Military Institute, where I made great friends and gained experience that is helping now both academically and militarily. Attending Marion is something I will definitely never regret and will always look back upon it with a smile.
Now that I am at the Academy I am a boxer and member of a multitude of clubs, mainly for the reason that I wanted to try something new. With that, the Academy has truly stacked my plate with academics, military training, and extracurriculars, but I, with the help of my shipmates have, can handle anything.
I am open to questions about any aspect of the life as a cadet at the Coast Guard Academy, whether it is sports, academics, or even if you want to know what the food is like. I can be reached by email at Ardy.I.Effendi@uscga.edu and hope to hear from you soon!
