Hey guys! My name is Allyson Roesch, but everyone calls me Allie. Though I’m from Manalapan, New Jersey (born and raised a proud Jersey girl!), I come to the Academy all the way from good ‘ole Marion, Alabama. I spent a year at prep school (Marion Military Institute) as a “self-prep.” I was not part of the Academy Scholars program, but I went to the prep school on my own after not getting into the class of 2015. So if any of you readers out there don’t get into the Academy on your first shot, do not get discouraged! There are other options and, quite honestly, I am happy that I did not get in right away. Feel free to ask me any questions about prepping – I’m always glad to help out! Prep school was a great experience and made Swab Summer and USCGA life easier to handle. I also spent two years in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary before I became a cadet, so I had some prior experience with the Coast Guard.
I come from a small family. My father owns his own business, my mother works at Macy’s, and my older sister goes to civilian college. I’m the only active duty military member in my entire family. They have all been a great support and are always at Academy events cheering me on. While at home, I enjoy playing guitar, singing, surfing, tanning and sleeping. At the Academy, I swim as well as run track in the spring – Go Bears! I am also involved in the Aviation Club, Glee Club, Regimental Band, and the Cadet Activities Council. I hope to eventually become a rotor-wing pilot in the Coast Guard flying search and rescue missions.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Allyson.J.Roesch@uscga.edu. I love helping out prospective cadets by talking about the Coast Guard and Academy life.
