Hello! My name is John Roddy and I am from Nairobi, Kenya. Growing up in an Army family, I was privileged enough to spend most of my childhood growing up overseas and have spent seven years living in four different African countries and the remainder living all over the United States.
Ever since I can remember, I planned on joining the military, but it wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I actually found the Coast Guard Academy. I discovered the AIM program by chance, applied, got accepted, and after completing the program I knew the Academy was the school for me. The amazing campus, professional and motivated people, and small size was everything I could want in a school, and better yet, after graduation I would be able to serve my country as an officer. I applied and was fortunate enough to be accepted and began my Academy experience on R-Day, July 1st, 2013.
I am currently on the rifle team here, and I am also a part of the Model United Nations, Mock Trial and International Clubs. If you have any questions about life at the Academy, sports or clubs, or anything else you’re curious about feel free to send my an email at John.M.Roddy@uscga.edu.
