Hey there! My name is Savannah Kuntz. I come from a small town on a Great Lake known as Vermilion, Ohio. I belong to an awesome family (and extended marina family) who own and operate a marina right on Lake Erie. My parents have raced sailboats all over the world – so needless to say, my love of the water is borderline genetic. Growing up on Lake Erie, I experienced firsthand the fun that can be had out on the water, but also some of the tragedies that can occur. Throughout the best times and the worst, the Coasties at Station Lorain (Ohio) were always there; and for that reason, I initially became interested in the Coast Guard.
Pretty much the most important things that anyone can ever know about me is that I love to laugh, I’m obsessed with my golden retriever puppy named Bailey, I thank God every day for the people I’ve met and the opportunities I’ve had along the way, and the littlest things can make my day (which is actually proving to be a rather valuable skill!). I’ve sailed and played soccer my whole life, and here at the Academy I’m continuing my dinghy sailing career! I’ve also joined the Officers of Christian Fellowship and I plan on continuing photography throughout my next four years here. I’m so excited that the Class of 2017 has finally made it through Swab Summer and we’re starting the beginnings of our cadet careers – with many thanks to those who trained us to get us where we are today. Its only my 10th week here at the Academy and I already have so many lessons, stories, and experiences. This is only the beginning, and I hope you’re along for the ride!
Thank you for reading my blog and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask! Savannah.M.Kuntz@uscga.edu!
