ABOUT CODY

Hey there! My name is Cody Bain and currently I’m a 3/c cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. On top of academics, I spend my time playing football and baseball on our varsity teams. Go Bears! This provides a great chance to escape the ordinary routine of the Academy and compete. While there is no part of me that regrets coming to the Academy, it can truly challenge any proven individual. For motivation, stepping back and contemplating your decision to attend one of the nation’s military academies always helps.

For me, I wanted something different. I came here for the adventure of a lifetime; one that doesn’t end at graduation, but begins. Old friends often look at us strangely for subjecting ourselves to a grueling four years at the Academy. Why not, though? It was their choice to get a degree in an ordinary way. We made the conscious decision to become part of a small community, forming one of the best teams in the world. And I know that’s a part of what makes us special.

Coming to the Academy may mean leaving home and family. You’re not alone. You’ll be joined by hundreds of like-minded individuals from all over the world. Soon you’ll find that your classmates are your brothers and sisters. You’ll discover another family. I know this, because I’ve found mine.

I’m not sure what I want to do in the Coast Guard yet, but I know that it will be fulfilling. I look forward to blogging in the future and giving you the best insight I can! Feel free to contact me at Cody.A.Bain@uscga.edu.
