Hi! My name is Samantha Cardoza, but everyone just calls me Sam. I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California, where my parents and two younger brothers still live. So, a little background on my family: my mom is a first grade teacher, my dad is a psychiatric nurse that works with the police, and my two younger brothers are in 7th and 9th grade. Now a little about me! I am a huge reader! You will never see me without a book either in my hands or in my backpack. I also love to do things outdoors. Running, doing sports, or just being outside in general definitely makes my day whenever I get the chance to do it.
Now for the Academy! This is actually my third year being involved in something at the Academy. In 2009, I attended AIM (Academy Introduction Mission), which was a blast! I absolutely loved it! Even though it was only a week, it really gave me a great perspective on the Academy and how everything functions here. In 2010,I was accepted into the Academy and attended Swab Summer. It was a huge wake up call for me and was a fantastic learning experience. I was medically disqualified six weeks into the summer and was sent home. I re-applied, and was re-accepted. I am now a part of the class of 2015 and I am honored to say that I am.
In high school, I was a swimmer and water polo player, and was involved in many clubs and organizations. Here at CGA, I am in rugby and water polo. I am also involved in swing dance, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Officers of Christian Fellowship (OCF), protestant choir and sometimes the worship team, Vespers, and a bible study off base. I am also a co-leader in the 2015 women’s bible study on campus.
I absolutely love the Academy! Yes, it is difficult, and you really have to work to make it through here, but so far, I love every moment of it and am so glad that I made the decision to apply here. If you have any questions about the Academy, academics, sports, Swab Summer, or anything at all, just send an email to Samantha.J.Cardoza@uscga.edu.
