Greetings! My name is Victoria Gurtler, and I am proud to call myself a member of the Class of 2015! At the Academy, this makes me a 4/c. I am from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin and obviously a huge Green Bay Packer fan! I have a brother that is a junior in high school and a Shih Tzu puppy named Abigail.
In high school, I was captain of my Division I varsity basketball team, played Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball, participated in the high school musicals, a member of National Honor Society, Vice-President of Student Council, competed in Forensics and a vocalist in the Wisconsin High School State Honors Choir. Additionally, I was named Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area First Runner-Up 2011 (one contestant away from competing in Miss Wisconsin).
At the Academy, I am on the women’s basketball team (Check out our USCGA Women's Basketball website), in the Glee Club, Cantor for the Catholic Mass and currently in Alfa Company. My intended major is Government. I did not become interested in the Academy until the fall of my senior year of high school, but I whole-heartedly feel I made the right decision to enroll here. As the first member of my family to join the military, I am treading in very new water, but learning so much along the way!
The USCGA is definitely a challenge physically, mentally, and emotionally, but for those willing to put duty before self and embrace the challenge, the opportunities and rewards are endless.
I would love to answer any questions you may have about life here at the Academy! Please do not hesitate to email me! My email address is Victoria.M.Gurtler@uscga.edu.
