Hi all, my name is Matt Martin and I am a 3/c cadet here at the Academy. I am majoring in Marine and Environmental Sciences and am a member of numerous, fun clubs like Jewish Club, Kayak Club, Compañeros Club, and quite a few others. I went to Mountain View High School, a public school in a suburb of Phoenix. I was a state champion basketball player and loved doing community service with my church and my school. I have a older brother and an older sister and I am the first to join the military.
I had read all of these blogs when I was checking out colleges and they were a real help for me in deciding to come here. I also came to visit during the Spring Break of my junior year. That got me interested enough to apply for the AIM program which I was accepted for, and that was my next visit that summer. AIM was a huge factor in why I chose the Academy and I strongly recommend it for those interested. After all that, I was still not sure I wanted to join a military service and wasn't sure whether it was worth all the hard work. It came down to the wire until it just made sense; the Academy was right for me. I wanted a top notch education, a small school, the ability to stay in shape, the leadership development, and the unbelievable opportunities cadets receive here. Most importantly, I wanted to do something different, I wanted to be challenged, I wanted to make something of myself and the Academy was the best option. I am very excited and extremely proud to be here and to be a part of this organization with all the great people I have met so far. I hope you enjoy my blogs as much as I enjoyed the ones I read as a prospective cadet. If you have any questions or comments please shoot me an email at Matthew.A.Martin@uscga.edu.
