U.S. Coast Guard Academy
Lieutenant Gismervik earned a B.S. (with honors) in Marine Environmental Science form the Coast Guard Academy in 2006. His first assignment after graduation was as a Deck Watch Officer on USCGC Oak (WLB-211) in Charleston, South Carolina. LT Gismervik then transferred to USCGC Waesche (WMSL-751) in Alameda, California, where he served as Assistant Operations Officer for two years before attending graduate school. LT Gismervik earned his M.S. in chemistry from the University of Connecticut in July 2012, and is now a chemistry instructor at the USCGA. LT Gismervik’s research at the University of Connecticut centered on fluorescent tagging of marine low molecular weight carboxylic acids in bi-phasic solutions.
