LT Aaron Dahlen is a native of International Falls Minnesota (“Icebox of the Nation”). He started his Coast Guard career in 1991 by completing boot camp at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May New Jersey. His first 10 Coast Guard years were spent serving at various radio navigation transmitting stations including LORSTA Kodiak, LORSTA St. Paul, and OMEGA station North Dakota. He also completed a tour teaching radio navigation systems at Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma California.
In 2004, then Chief Electronics Technician Dahlen was selected to attend the Coast Guard’s Advanced Computer, Engineering, and Technology (ACET) program. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at the University of Minnesota, Mankato. Upon graduation he served the next three years on the heavy icebreakers CGC Polar Star and CGC Healy exploring cold places in the far South and North.
In 2007, Chief Dahlen received a commission to LTjg through the Coast Guard's Direct Commission Engineer program. He returned to work in radio navigation systems at the Loran support unit in Wildwood New Jersey. Now LT Dahlen was selected to attend graduate school under the Coast Guard’s Communications, Computer, and Electrical Engineering (CCEE) program. He returned to Minnesota State University, Mankato and earned a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
LT Dahlen joined the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2012 as a faculty member in the Electrical Engineering department.
