LT TAKANA L. SKELTON, CHC, USN

LT Takana L. Skelton is a native of Wartrace, Tennessee. She earned her Master of Divinity degree at Memphis Theological Seminary, Memphis, Tennessee with honors (Summa Cum Laude) in 2011. In 2008, she received a bachelor (Magna Cum Laude) and master’s degree with concentration in Health Care Management from American Intercontinental University, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
After graduating from Basic Chaplain School at the Naval Chaplaincy School and Center, Fort Jackson, South Carolina in August 17, 2011, she was commissioned as Lieutenant Junior Grade on August 18, 2011. She is also prior enlisted Navy Hospital Corpsman/Pharmacy Technician served on active duty for 10 years from 1992 until 2002. In 1997, while stationed in Beaufort South Carolina, LTJG Skelton was the first Navy Pharmacy Technician awarded the Pharmacy Technician NEC 8482 without prior military schooling.
LT Skelton served as youth pastor of Germantown Christian Center during 2009 and 2011. In the summer of 2009, she also completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Methodist University hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The CPE program covered five hospitals in the area with one being LeBonhuer Children’s Hospital. LT Skelton was instrumental in serving at all five hospitals. After completion of CPE, due to her excellent work ethic, compassion and love of all people, she was asked to remain on staff as a volunteer chaplain until attending Navy Chaplain School. She also was a student leader at Memphis Theological Seminary from 2010 until 2011.
LT Skelton was selected for active duty service on August 18, 2011 at which time she received orders to MCAS Chapel in Iwakuni, Japan as Station Chaplain. She was promoted to Lieutenant on September 1, 2012. LT Skelton reported to the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut in August 2013.
Her military decorations include Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct, Overseas Service and National Defense Service Ribbon. She is also the recipient of the 2011 Stanley J. Beach Student Leadership Award.
LT Skelton is a proud mother of two teenagers Antonio (17) and Jazmyn (16) Scott who currently reside in Collierville, Tennessee.
