Lieutenant Andrew Norberg comes from an Army family, claiming Alaska as home, and graduated high school in Alexandria, Virginia, having been accepted to the United States Coast Guard Academy. Graduating in 2008, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine and Environmental Science, he was first assigned as a Deck Watch Officer to the CGC Alex Haley (WMEC-39) in Kodiak, Alaska. Onboard he served as the Communications Officer, First Lieutenant, and Boarding Officer, conducting over 20 fisheries boardings in the Bering Sea and Northern Pacific Ocean, making additional deployments to the Arctic and the equatorial Pacific. In 2010, he transferred to the USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) in Yokosuka, Japan as the ship’s Navigator. While onboard, he sailed with the U.S. 7th Fleet, conducting multiple exercises with foreign navies and patrols from Russian waters to Australia. In June 2012, he was transferred to the Coast Guard Academy where he now teaches Nautical Science III.
His personal awards include the Coast Guard and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Commandant Letter of Commendation, and the Arctic Service Medal.
