LCDR Steven Blum grew up in Farmington, CT. At the Coast Guard Academy he was a Civil Engineering major and played on the Basketball and Track and Fields teams. He completed his first tour on the USCGC CHASE in San Diego, CA and then went to the University of Illinois for graduate school. Since then he has served tours at Civil Engineering Unit Providence, RI, at Base Alameda in the Bay Area, CA, and at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC.
