Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Gina Martfeld graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Management. Her first assignment was the USCGC POLAR STAR (WAGB-10) where she served as an underway Officer of the Deck. She helped support Operation Deep Freeze in McMurdo, Antarctica for two years while aboard. In 2015, LCDR Martfeld transitioned to USCGC STRATTON (WMSL-752) in Alameda, CA where she directed and coordinated counter narcotics operations in the Eastern Pacific as the cutter’s Assistant Operations Officer and Navigator. While aboard she was the Acting Operations Officer during USCGC STRATTON’s participation in Rim of the Pacific Exercise in 2016. Following this tour, LCDR Martfeld reported to Flight School in Pensacola, Florida. After much deliberation, she decided to return afloat and became the Operations Officer aboard USCGC ALEX HALEY (WMEC-39) in Kodiak, AK. During this tour, USCGC ALEX HALEY conducted vital fisheries enforcement around the Bering Sea and successfully interdicted an illegal and environmentally devastating high seas drift net vessel in the Western Pacific. Prior to reporting to the Management Department as a rotating military instructor in 2022, LCDR Martfeld completed her graduate school education at the University of Alaska Anchorage, graduating with a Master of Business Administration. LCDR Martfeld is married to a Coast Guard MH-60 pilot and has three pets.
