Meghan Steinhaus, Ph.D., Commander, USCG, (Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff)

MSteinhaus CDR Steinhaus is the Head of the Mathematics Department and a member of the Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff (PCTS) at CGA. Previously, CDR Steinhaus served as the Branch Chief for the Modeling and Simulation Center of Expertise at the US Coast Guard Research and Development Center (2018-2020). In this role, CDR Steinhaus had the opportunity to directly apply her education and background in Operations Research to Coast Guard specific problems. CDR Steinhaus reported to CGA’s Mathematics Department in 2009 as a rotating military faculty member; she was selected as a member of the PCTS in 2012; and she served as the Assistant Dean of Academics from 2016-2018. Prior to reporting to the Math Dept, CDR Steinhaus served in various Coast Guard assignments: as a Deck Watch Officer aboard the CGC DAUNTLESS, an instructor at Officer Candidate School, and as a member of CGA’s Cadet Training Branch. CDR Steinhaus graduated from CGA in 2002 with a degree in Operations Research and Computer Analysis, and she attended graduate school at the University of Rhode Island earning her MS and PhD in Industrial Engineering, as well as her MBA. CDR Steinhaus currently resides in CT with her husband and their four children.
