Richard Andrews
Richard Andrews ’67, was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device for meritorious service as a Patrol Boat Commander during combat operations in the Vietnam War. His aggressiveness, initiative and sound judgement made the Point Caution a highly effective combat unit which compiled an impressive record in all phases of Operation Market Time, a massive mission to stop the flow of troops and supplies from North to South Vietnam.
During those patrols, he boarded and searched numerous junks and sampans and detained several vessels carrying contraband and apprehended 21 Viet Cong suspects. Pursing the enemy, he inflicted heavy losses during 26 naval gunfire support missions which resulted in more than 90 structures and a dozen sampans destroyed or damaged.
