Wall of Gallantry Nomination

Eligibility Criteria

Nominee must meet the commissioning source eligibility requirement. For the Academy Wall of Gallantry, member must be a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. For the Officer Candidate School (OCS) Wall of Gallantry, member must be a commissioned officer graduate of OCS, the Direct Commission Officer (DCO) program, or the Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination (ROCI) program.

Nominee has distinguished themselves in service and been awarded at least one of the following awards:

  • Medal of Honor
  • Congressional Gold Medal
  • Distinguished Service Cross
  • Coast Guard Cross
  • Navy Cross
  • Silver Star
  • Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal
  • Department of Homeland Security Distinguished Service Medal
  • Legion of Merit
  • Distinguished Flying Cross
  • Coast Guard Medal
  • Navy and Marine Corps Medal
  • Gold Lifesaving Medal
  • Bronze Star Medal
  • Purple Heart Medal
  • Meritorious Service Medal with OR without “O” device
  • Air Medal
  • NASA Space Flight Medal
  • Silver Lifesaving Medal
  • Humanitarian Service Medal
  • Any personal award with OR without Combat “V” device

A graduate who does not meet the above criteria may still be eligible for selection by the Corps of Cadets. Nominations must contain a summary of action and will be assessed on the significance and impact of the individual’s actions.

Procedure for Filling Out Nomination Form

  • The full name of the nominee shall include the nominee’s rank at the end of their service.
  • The year of graduation is the year of commissioning. The commissioning source is the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Officer Candidate School, Direct Commission Officer Program, or the Reserve Officer Candidate Indoctrination Program.
  • Career path and notable events should include a list of the nominees’ units and any major event that the nominee was involved in at each unit.
  • Citation(s) of distinguishing award is either the exact citation or a comprehensive summary of the award that incurs the nominee’s eligibility to be placed on the Wall of Gallantry. Note: except in rare circumstances, a copy of the citation is required for consideration.
  • Nominations for commissioned officers that were not Coast Guard Academy graduates will be forwarded to the Officer Candidate Chief for consideration.

Nomination packaged for officers who matriculated through other commissioning sources should be mailed to the Officer Candidate School.
