This will be an appointment in the excepted service to a full-time position on the academic faculty for a period not to exceed August 7, 2027. Non-competitive extensions past the initial contract period may be made in accordance with government instructions if a vacancy exists. The first two years of appointment to federal service is a trial period. This position is not eligible for telework and not eligible for remote work. All teaching is done in person. Relocation expenses are not authorized. Travel is not required.
Salary offers may be made outside of the listed range for exceptional candidates.
The successful candidate will teach courses such as Computer Modeling Languages, Information Systems, Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics, and Project-based AI/ML modeling. The teaching load will be 9-15 contact hours per semester during the school year. Candidates will be expected to supervise student capstone projects, collaborate with the AI/ML Center, and provide computational, analytical, and AI/ML technology support for faculty research and scholarship as needed. The candidate will also perform other collateral duties as assigned. The position is not eligible for telework or remote work. Over the summer, the selectee may be called on to assist with curating and delivering faculty development opportunities in the fields of AI/ML and Data Analytics and/or curriculum development in these areas of study.
A Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
At least 5 years of undergraduate-level teaching, either as an instructor or as a teaching assistant.
PhD in Data Analytics or AI/ML model developer experience.
5-10 years of Industry or Higher Education experience managing successful research agendas in the field of AI/ML or Data Science.
A strong record of interdisciplinary engagement and project management.
Strong record of industry, government, and higher education partnerships focused on technology development and advancement.
Exceptional teamwork skills, the ability to demonstrate initiative, and the ability to be adaptable in the context of a student-centered institution.
Interpersonal, teaching and effective written and oral communications skills.
A strong record of scholarship and publication in related fields.
Understanding of, and adherence to, Core Values of the United States Coast Guard.
