Brian Bonomi is a 2011 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy’s Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering program. Following graduation he served as the Damage Control Assistant as well as the Auxiliary Division Officer onboard the USCGC VIGOROUS. In 2013 he attended post graduate school at the University of Michigan, where he earned Masters degrees in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and Industrial & Operations Engineering. In 2015 he was assigned to the Marine Safety Center as a Staff Naval Architect where he conducted technical reviews of commercial cargo, towing, and passenger vessel designs. In 2019 he was assigned to the Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance where he worked on the Coast Guard’s inspection program and partnership with Classification Societies for the approximately 500 largest U.S. flag vessels which sail internationally. In 2020 he was assigned as the Coast Guard Liaison Officer to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy where he was a member of the faculty, led U.S. Coast Guard professional development, and recruited Coast Guard Officers. He joined the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering faculty in 2023. He and his wife have two children, and the family enjoys hiking and outdoor activities.
