Describe your initial impression of AIM in five words or less.
What Swab Summer is like.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about the Academy that you didn’t already know?
The most interesting thing that I learned is that if you have a desire to go to flight school you are guaranteed to get in at some point in your career in the Coast Guard, which is not the case for some of the other academies.
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was trying to not lose my voice and to keep being loud. I overcame it by isolating my diaphragm and abs more to yell.
Looking back, would you have done anything different to prepare yourself for AIM?
I would have gone into the program with a better mindset, knowing that it is intense and preparing my mind for that.
Can you identify a noticeable difference in yourself after attending AIM? If so, what?
The main difference I noticed in myself is my realization for how intense and challenging Swab Summer really is. I also believe that realization is only possible by attending AIM and seeing it firsthand.
Would you recommend attending AIM? Why?
I would strongly recommend attending AIM. Swab Summer is very intense, and I would not have realized the level of intensity involved had I not attended AIM. I think AIM provides a gauge of how well you can perform during Swab Summer which is very valuable when deciding whether to attend CGA.
