NEW LONDON, Conn – President Joe Biden recently nominated Admiral Linda L. Fagan to serve as the 27th Commandant of the Coast Guard. Fagan will be the first woman to serve as Commandant of the Coast Guard; she currently serves as the 32nd Vice Commandant.
First Class Cadet Elizabeth Carter, graduating from the Academy this May, is inspired and awestruck by the news.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, a woman will serve as the top official in ANY branch in the U.S. Armed Forces. As a woman graduating from the Academy, I am encouraged and motivated to witness this history, and be a part of a service dedicated to celebrating our female leaders. Having a strong network of female leaders in the Coast Guard not only comforts and inspires me but provides a support system founded in shared values and leadership experiences. It is an absolute honor to serve under Admiral Fagan,” said Carter.
Carter will be reporting to Newport, Rhode Island on the USCGC Sycamore after graduation.
