Describe your initial impression of AIM in five words or less.
Intimidating, Exhausting, Connections, and Structured.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about the Academy that you didn’t already know?
The most interesting thing I learned about the Academy that I did not fully understand is what SWAB Summer is all about. My time at AIM gave me a realistic expectation of my first summer.
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge during AIM was the number of emotions I experienced. I was able to overcome it by being mentally prepared and strong.
Looking back, would you have done anything different to prepare yourself for AIM?
Looking back, I would have done more research on what to expect for AIM. I was not as prepared as I could’ve been for the marching, and other Coast Guard traditions I learned.
Can you identify a noticeable difference in yourself after attending AIM? If so, what?
After attending AIM I do recognize a difference in myself. I am more self-aware, I am more confident and I now know I can do more than I ever believed I could.
Would you recommend attending AIM? Why?
Yes, I would recommend attending AIM to anyone that is seriously considering applying to the Coast Guard Academy. This is the most realistic experience anyone can receive to set expectations for SWAB summer.
