How did you hear of the Coast Guard Academy?
As I researched careers that combine leadership, service, and a connection to the maritime environment, I discovered the Coast Guard’s unique missions. I was especially drawn to its focus on search and rescue, marine environmental protection, and humanitarian service. After speaking with Coast Guard Academy graduates stationed near me in the Netherlands, it encouraged me to explore the Coast Guard Academy as a place where I could challenge myself, grow as a leader, and prepare for a career of service.
What is the #1 thing you’ve done to prepare for AIM?
The #1 thing I’ve done to prepare for AIM is consistently focus on my physical fitness. I have been training regularly and pushing myself to improve my endurance, strength, and mental toughness. This includes running, strength training, and maintaining an active lifestyle through varsity athletics.
What do you expect to have in common with your fellow AIMsters?
Although we may come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives and experiences, I think we will all share a desire to challenge ourselves, develop as leaders, and serve our nation. I am really excited to build new friendships and work together as a team, while supporting one another through the challenges.
What are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to experiencing Academy life firsthand and learning from current cadets and Coast Guard officers. I am especially excited to learn more about the athletic opportunities at the Academy and speaking with Coast Guard Academy coaches. I’m also looking forward to challenging myself both physically and mentally, developing my leadership skills, and connecting with other students who share similar goals and interests.
Any hesitations about your AIM week?
While I know AIM will be physically and mentally demanding, I view that as an opportunity rather than a concern. Being far from home and adapting quickly to a new environment will be challenging, but my experience attending schools in five countries and working with people from diverse backgrounds has taught me how to adapt and remain resilient. I am excited to learn from the experience and grow from any challenges I encounter.
What do your peers think about your service academy aspirations?
My peers have been very supportive of my goal to attend a service academy. Many of them understand the values of service, leadership, and teamwork because they are military-connected students and attend DoWEA schools overseas. Through AFJROTC at AFNORTH International School, I am surrounded by fellow cadets who have similar aspirations of attending service academies or serving in the military. We encourage and support one another and they are super excited for me to attend AIM this summer.
