Jade Schroeder, M.S., Lieutenant, USCG

Marine Science, Instructor (Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff) Marine and Environmental Sciences
CGA wordmark Lieutenant Jade Schroeder earned a B.S. (with honors) in Marine and Environmental Sciences from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2016. After graduation, she was assigned to the USCGC MOHAWK (WMEC-913) in Key West, Florida as a Deck Watch Officer. While on MOHAWK, she garnered Maritime Law Enforcement experience while conducting pursuit Drug and Migrant Interdiction operations. LT Schroeder then transferred to Sector North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she served as the Assistant Incident Management Division (IMD) Chief. While working in IMD, she oversaw all hazard pollution response throughout the coastal zone of North Carolina, and conducted Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security operations. LT Schroeder also worked closely and assisted with the management of the eight boat stations in North Carolina, responded to two major hurricanes, and established herself as a member of the Response Ashore community. Following her tenure at Sector North Carolina, LT Schroeder attended the University of Michigan (UM) and earned her M.S. in Toxicology. At UM, LT Schroeder conducted in vitro high content screening assays with immunofluorescent markers to measure phenotypic plasticity of human breast cells and the role environmental toxicants may play in cancer development and progression. Upon graduation from UM in 2023, LT Schroeder joined the Chemical and Environmental Sciences (CES) department as a Rotating Military Faculty member. In 2024, LT Schroeder was selected for Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff in the Department of Marine Science. LT Schroeder continues her collaborations with the CES department by serving as a research assistant for and by co-facilitating a toxicology capstone with Dr. Joshua Gray. In addition to science, LT Schroeder also serves as the Head Coach for the CGA Women’s Ice Hockey Team, as well as the Associate Coach for the Men’s Ice Hockey Team.
