Describe your initial impression of AIM in 5 words or less?
This will be tough.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about the Academy that you didn’t already know?
One of the most interesting things I learned about the Academy was a more in-depth look at the variety of majors. Specifically, that there were more specialties within the majors than I previously realized.
What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge for me at AIM was the intense training sessions and long periods of physical conditioning, which tested both strength and stamina. I overcame this by pushing myself to keep going, reminding myself that each session was temporary. I kept a mentality of giving my all, and still trying when it felt like I had nothing left to give.
Looking back, would you have done anything different to prepare yourself for AIM?
Looking back, I would work more on memorization techniques. I think it would have helped me to more easily learn the information for indoctrination (a written test).
Can you identify a noticeable difference in yourself after attending AIM? If so, what?
I can tell a noticeable difference in myself after attending AIM. After I got home, I noticed I was more productive and better at time management. I think it is in part due to the many tasks I was able to accomplish in one day at AIM.
Would you recommend attending AIM? Why?
I would 100% recommend attending AIM. It taught me a lot about myself, showed me how quickly bonds can be formed, and helped me push past limits I didn’t realize I had set for myself, striving for my best even after the program ended. Lastly, attending AIM will help students figure out if the USCGA is for them.
