On his current assignment
“At the Office of Budget and Programs, I help to formulate the Coast Guard’s annual budget, brief congressional oversight committees on the Service’s resource needs, and craft strategic communication to external stakeholders. My job is very rewarding in that I am afforded the opportunity to shape the long-term direction of the Service, while working alongside highly talented members and civilians.”
On his studies at the Academy
“Throughout my career, I have directly applied numerous lessons learned within the Management curriculum to my service as an officer. Courses in financial accounting, research methods, project management, and organizational behavior set me up for success in my first tour as an ensign. These foundational skills continue to help me grow as a manager and leader.”
On close faculty relationships
“The small student to faculty ratio enabled me to develop strong relationships with the Management faculty, many of which have continued well after graduation. Faculty members invested their time and energy every day in helping me and my classmates achieve our full potential. Whether it be providing academic tutoring, leadership advice, or career guidance, I always knew I could rely on my professors to help me overcome cadet challenges. I am thankful for their support.”
On lessons in leadership
“Leadership training is the most important aspect of the Academy experience. Regardless of your career path, you will be placed in positions of authority where you will directly impact people’s lives. Exercising leadership skills in Chase Hall, the athletic field, and summer training prepares cadets to be effective leaders in the Coast Guard and in all future endeavors.”
