On the Education
The Management major has provided me with the opportunity to explore a wide range of business and leadership topics that directly translate to success in the Coast Guard and beyond. My coursework has included accounting, marketing, strategy, negotiation, human resource management, research design, organizational leadership, and project management, among others. This well-rounded academic foundation has equipped me with the skills necessary to lead effectively and make sound decisions in any environment.
On the Additional Opportunities
The Management major has opened doors far beyond the classroom, allowing me to expand my education through unique and practical experiences. Through a guided study, I earned the Financial and Managerial Accounting Associate (FMAA) certification—an Institute of Management Accountants credential that demonstrates foundational expertise in financial and managerial accounting. I had the privilege of representing the Academy in a business ethics case competition against other universities. I was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, connecting me to a global network of business professionals. For my capstone project, I am conducting real-world research on market price and supply chain dynamics. I am proud to be earning a degree from an AACSB-accredited institution, and each of these opportunities has enriched my education in meaningful, tangible ways. I am deeply grateful to the Coast Guard Academy for providing them all at no cost.
On the Faculty
The Management Department’s close-knit and dedicated faculty have become trusted mentors whose influence will last far beyond graduation. Their commitment to each student’s success, paired with small class sizes and an engaging learning environment, has made an incredible impact on my development. Every instructor I’ve had has demonstrated a genuine investment in my growth as both a future officer and a business professional.
