On the education
The wide range of courses and opportunities offered by the School of Leadership and Management have provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that have helped prepare me to be a successful officer in the United States Coast Guard. The Management major offers business courses such as accounting, budgeting, marketing, and personal finance which are taught by world-class professors. They teach you how to become proficient in the world of business and how to properly handle your own income. On the other hand, the Management major also offers leadership courses that not only give you the skills and knowledge to be a successful leader in the Coast Guard, but how to be an exemplary person in life. The management curriculum has helped enhance my presentation and communication skills, elevated my proficiency in business-related topics, and greatly developed my leadership capabilities. As Coast Guard officers we will be responsible for managing budgets, leading personnel, and handling our own finances and the Management major excels in their role at emphasizing the real-world applications of the content we learn so we are prepared for our careers after graduation.
On the staff to student ratio
The individualized attention that we receive is like no other major at the Academy. The Management faculty and staff are all experts in their fields and are always willing to help. Whenever you need help with schoolwork, career advice, or just someone to talk to, the faculty is always very approachable and puts their students first. The faculty are very hard-working, caring, and passionate about what they do, and they are bought-in on not only our academic development but our overall personal and professional development.
On the future
The Management major has challenged me and taught me lessons that I will carry for the rest of my life. I am confident that the rigorous academics and outstanding faculty have helped prepare me for my future as a businessperson, Coast Guard Officer, and a leader.
