“The Academy’s command religious program provides pastoral guidance, ministries and facilitation to the free exercise of religion for members of the Armed Forces assigned to the Coast Guard Academy.”
Programs include worship, retreats, religious education, fellowship, chapel choirs and outreach. The religious program supports and accommodates all religious and spiritual needs of our cadets.
The Coast Guard Memorial Chapel welcomes visitors from sunrise to sunset. A variety of services and programs are held in the Chapel and in the Chapel’s fellowship room.
History: In 1947, Congress authorized the Coast Guard to build a Chapel at the Coast Guard Academy. Money was raised through a Memorial Chapel Fund. A nationwide fund drive was launched in 1948. The smallest contribution was one penny and the largest was $172,000.
The lighthouse lantern installed in the tower immediately below the spire serves as a beacon to mariners and serves as a guide to refuge in a safe harbor. This nondenominational chapel is situated on the highest point in New London.
