Insurance and Referrals

All eligible beneficiaries are enrolled in the military’s Tricare health insurance program. Care outside the Clinic’s scope of practice, including specialty referrals, takes place off campus through the Tricare Network. Tricare referrals must be placed by a military primary care manager. Military service members must use Tricare as primary insurance, other health insurance (including parental) and self-pay options are not permitted. All outside care must be reported and clinical notes provided for Coast Guard health record. Active duty service members are NOT permitted to use Urgent Care Centers for care without a prior referral.

CADETS should get all routine care before traveling.

The on-site Health Benefits Advisor (HBA) seamlessly manages the processing of specialty care referrals through Humana (Tricare East).

The best way to contact the HBA office is via email at CGA-SMB-HealthBenefitsAdvisor@uscg.mil
